Salta in the northwestern Argentina is a quiet city with a reach colonial atmosphere – a confortable place to rest with a wide variety of hotels. Life gravitates around the Plaza 9 de Julio and it is easy to sit there or in a nearby café watching the pasers-by and getting a good idea of the essence of the comunity. Ay almost any time of te day, the sunlight shining on the high palms or reflecting off the yellos walls of the Catedral on the northen end of the square, is magnificent.
Taking a city tour may be the best way to get to know the city’s important history and see well-preserved colonial buildins such as the Cabildo, the Catedral, the Church of San Francisco and the Convent of San Bernardo.
Three main types of tourism are to be found in the área, package excursions bookable through agents, visit to ranches belonging to Horacio Cornejo’s Club de Paradores, and off- the- beaten track adventure tourism.
