Nick: No, I wasn't My family and I were watching TV.

Sara: No, my mom was making dinner and I was helping her.

Iván: I wasn't doing anything. My phone was dead!

El was se usa para singular (I, he, she, It) y el were para el plural (You, we, they). Y además está usando el past continuous así que tienes que usar was / were + verbo en -ing
