Although the story is attributed to Isaac Asimov's Robots Stories , which includes a compilation of short stories of the same name , it is actually based on a screenplay by Harlan Ellison , entitled Hardwired and is more like Isaac Asimov's book Caliban , written by Roger MacBride Allen . 1 [ 1 ]
Some Asimov ideas about robots - most importantly, the three laws of robotics - were added to Ellison's script after the producers acquired the rights to the book's title. Some ideas gleaned from the stories come from "The Lost Robot" ("Little Lost Robot" in the original) , and its protagonist the NS-2 robot has a name similar to that of the film, NS-5. Also the company USR (US Robots and Mechanical Men, Inc., Robots and Mechanical Men of the United States) is mentioned in novels and short stories of the American writer "Isaac Asimov
