Respuesta:

Ramón Matías or Matías Ramón Mella; Santo Domingo, 1816 - 1864) Leader of Dominican independence. In 1838, sixteen years after the entire island of Hispaniola was unified under the dominion of Haiti, Mella participated together with other Dominican patriots (among which Juan Pablo Duarte and Francisco del Rosario Sánchez) stand out in the foundation of La Trinitaria, secret society of liberal and separatist ideology whose objective was the independence of the eastern half of the island (the current Dominican Republic).

Together with Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, Mella led the proclamation of independence in 1844 and was part of the provisional government, but, after the victory in Azua, the conservative Pedro Santana took over the presidency and decreed the exile of the Trinitarians. With the amnesty of 1848 he returned to the country and held important military and civilian positions in the new Republic. Completely contrary to the annexation to Spain, consummated in 1861 at the initiative of President Santana, he participated in the Restoration War (1863-1865), but died before seeing the Republic restored.
