Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He was the eighth of the ten children of the Jackson family, a working-class African-American family living in a two-bedroom house on Jackson Street in Gary, Indiana, an industrial city in the metropolitan area of Chicago. From an early age, Michael showed interest in music when he sang at the Christmas celebrations of the kindergarten he attended.
