Boseman was born on November 29, 1976, in Anderson, South Carolina, the son of Carolyn, a nurse, and Leroy Boseman, an upholstery shop owner.1314 He graduated from TL Hanna High School in 19951415 and later, in 2000, graduated from Howard University in Washington, D. C., with a degree in film directing.4 He also graduated from the British American Drama Academy in Oxford, Oxfordshire.
From 2002 to 2007, he was a drama instructor at the Schomburg Junior Fellows Program, located at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, New York.16 He moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an actor in 2008.17
Boseman made his television debut in 2003 by making a brief appearance on the series Third Watch, and that same year became a recurring actor on the soap opera All My Children. However, he was fired shortly thereafter for complaining to the producers about the racial stereotyping of several characters, including his own.18
