Like other almanacs, Poor Richard’s Almanack was filled with general information, like planting dates, weather predictions, and advice.

In the 1750s, he became famous worldwide for his experiments with electricity and the invention of the lightning rod. Franklin used his popularity to work for causes he believed in, like American independence. In 1778, he persuaded the French to support the Americans during their war for freedom from Britain.
