Tábara became interested in painting at the age of three and was drawing regularly by the age of six. In these early years, Tábara was encouraged by her sister and her mother. In 1946 he entered the School of Fine Arts of Guayaquil where he was influenced by the German teacher Hans Michelson who instilled in him discipline and work capacity. [3] Another of his influences was that of the artist Martínez Serrano, who managed to instill in Tábara. the importance and discipline of forms.
Enrique Tábara, however, was a creator who investigated and demystified the image in which he took refuge. A master of experimentation, he was fully aware of his roots and the process that he followed in his later years, with abundant works that showed a change. [4]
Tábara, influenced by the constructivist movement founded around 1913 by the Russian artist Vladimir Tatlin, made his way in Europe and Latin America through the Uruguayan painter Joaquín Torres García and the Ecuadorian Parisian painter Manuel Rendón. He also felt an enormous attraction for Spanish informalism, orienting himself towards a geometric constructivism. But his work took yet another turn toward a type of repetitive calligraphic painting, inspired by pre-Columbian decorations. [5]
One of his most recognized works of his legacy are those of the series "Pata pata", which corresponds to paintings that incorporate legs, legs with shoes and pants with shoes. In his last stage his work focused on minimalist, geometric reminiscent of his historical style. In his last years he promoted the creation of a museum of the Tábara Foundation with a pre-Columbian theme. [6]
He died of natural causes at the age of 90, on January 25, 2021 at his farm located in the Cuatro Mangas Campus, on the outskirts of Quevedo in Ecuador. [2] :)
