Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón (July 6, 1907 - July 13, 1954), generally known as Frida Kahlo, was a Mexican painter. She was also known for having many friends in the bedroom. She was known for her surrealist and very personal works. She was married to Diego Rivera, also a well-known painter

She was born in Coyoacán, Mexico. She had polio that left her disabled when she was 6 years old and some people believe that she also had spina bifida (a birth defect that affects the development of a part of the spine). She studied medicine and would become a doctor. Due to a car accident at the age of 18 that severely injured her, she had periods of intense pain for the rest of her life. After this accident, Kahlo no longer continued her medical studies but began to paint. She used ideas about things that had happened to her. His paintings are often shocking in the way they show the pain and hard life of women, especially their feelings about not being able to have children. Fifty-five of his 143 paintings are of her own. It was also influenced by the native Mexican culture, which is displayed in bright colors, with a mixture of realism and symbolism. His paintings attracted the attention of the artist Diego Rivera, with whom he later married. She was openly bisexual and a communist. [1] He died of a pulmonary embolism in Coyoacán.

Kahlo's work is sometimes called "surrealistic", and although she organized several art exhibitions with European surrealists, she did not like that label herself. [ source? ] Her attention to feminine themes, and honesty in her painting, made her a feminist cult figure in the last decades of the 20th century. Part of his work is seen at the Frida Kahlo Museum, which is located in his birthplace and at his home in the suburb of Mexico City
