A modal verb is a type of verb that is used to indicate something(like the ability of something, an order or some advice. They always accompany the base form of another verb having semantic content.

can:  It can be used to express ability or opportunity, to request or offer permission, and to show possibility or impossibility.

b) A race dog can run quickly.

c) He can ride a horse.

can't: is the negative form of can, consisting of 'can' and 'not'

c) She is intelligent but she can't read very well.

should: to express something that is probable, to ask questions to show obligation, give recommendation or an opinion.

a) John should be here by 2:00 PM.

b) He should be bringing Jennifer with him.

d) You should stop eating fast food.

shouldn't: the negative form of should.

a) You shouldn't do that.

b) He shouldn't have climbed the oak tree.

c) She shouldn't have done that.

must: we use must to imply that something is necessary or very important that something happens in the present or future.

a) I must work hard on my English!

b) Pupils must not run in the corridors.

c) I must say, this food is delicious!

d) You must do that now.

mustn't: negative form of must
