Lost Under the Ocean
In March 2018, a class from Mount
Elementary School in Su'ao, Taiwan, went
to clean the beach. They found a camera in
an underwater case. They didn't know it was
a camera at first because the case had things
from the ocean all over it. They showed their
teacher, Mr. Park Lee. He opened the case.
Inside was a digital canmera, and no sea water!
The class took the camera back to school.
Everyone had questions: Did it work? Were there
any photos in it? Did it belong to someone from
Su'ao? Could they find him or her? The camera
worked! Mr. Park Lee looked at the photos. They
showed fish and people underwater, and streets in
Japan. Mr. Lee put some photos with a message in
Chinese and Japanese on social media. He asked
people to share the message with their friends. In
the next 24 hours, thousands of people saw the
message. One of them was Serina Tsubakihara, a
Japanese student. She couldn't believe it - they
were her photos!
Serina went scuba diving near Okinawa, in Japan, in
September 2015. She lost her camera there. It was in
the ocean for more than two years and traveled 250
kilometers to Taiwan!
