The Veterinary Medicine and Surgery career belongs to the area of Health Sciences and is responsible for diagnosing and treating diseases in animals. The work and professional practice of a veterinarian needs both skills and attitudes that ensure the well-being of the patient: the animal. Said well-being must be driven by love for them. And more than love, real passion for animals.

Of course, it is not only a pleasure to bathe your dog or take it for a walk, but a true passion for all kinds of animals, from those that are considered savages such as lions or jaguars, to a defenseless rabbit; from a horse that is about to give birth, to a cat with a wounded leg. The professional will sometimes have to move to the animal's habitat, which can be a great challenge for many and definitely goes beyond a simple empathy for the animal kingdom. However, it must be wonderful to witness the birth of a cow or save the life of a baby, don't you think?

Also, veterinary medicine involves an interest in science and research. As we already said, this profession is related to the health area, so updating in treatments, diagnosis and detection of diseases is essential to ensure the welfare of animals. Even being at the forefront of scientific advances in veterinary medicine also serves human health, as it can determine if a bad animal can affect human beings, thus ensuring sustainability and balance. It also implies having contact with medical processes; see blood, trauma and endure seeing a sick or run over animal to try to save its life.

On the other hand, it involves maintaining good relationships and customer service. Logically, it does not mean that veterinarians talk to animals expecting them to answer, but rather the fact that this profession offers a service aimed at animals, but that it will most likely be paid for by the owners. Therefore, the Veterinary Doctor must interact not only with the animal, but also with people. Can you imagine how painful it can be to break the news of the death of a pet? In addition, when offered as a service, the necessary administrative part must be considered: a secretary for appointments, billings, waiting rooms and the necessary medical equipment. You have to think about everything, right?

It does not sound like an easy job, but it becomes a very rewarding job for those who feel an inevitable love for animals, for their well-being and their proper development. A round of applause for those who decide to dedicate their lives to save that of others, and if you University student, feel that you meet these and more requirements, that you were not wrong when choosing your career, continue to strive and do your best to guarantee success. welfare of animals in the medium term, by you. Your effort counts!
