The World Trade Center (literally, World Trade Center) was a complex of buildings in Lower Manhattan, New York City, United States, which included the emblematic Twin Towers, inaugurated on April 4, 1973, and destroyed in the attacks of September 11, 2001, along with the World Trade Center 7. After burning for 56 minutes, the South Tower (WTC 2) collapsed, followed half an hour later by the North Tower (WTC 1). The World Trade Center attacks resulted in some 2 753 deaths. The World Trade Center collapsed later in the day, and other buildings, although they did not collapse, had to be demolished because the damage they presented was irreparable. . The process of cleaning and recovering the World Trade Center site took eight months.
