The habits I have had in my English studies are:

  • Integrating new vocabulary I learn with sentences and ideas from the real life. This helps me memorize the words and the meanings. I create sentences that are true for me.
  • Using social media in English. I use to change the language of my accounts, and the content I consume is mostly in English, videoblogs, music, etc. I also use apps to communicate with native speakers.
  • Avoid to make literal translations. We know that in the languages there are different expressions that translated into another language they make no sense. Therefore, it is important to investigate similar expressions in the new language that could have a similar meaning the ones in our own language.

These have been good habits for me since now I can communicate in English, I have no problem with following a dialog, and my English level is good enough to understand what is being said.

Studying a language.

1. Habits I have had in my English studies.

While I was in my English class, I had tried to keep using the verbs that I learn at that moment. I looked for videos, and practicing writing sentences about daily situations that I could use those verbs or what I learn.

Then I looked for ten new verbs, and use what I learn with those new verbs. I actually like to listen to podcast, so I found some Americans and English people who talk about interesting subjects. So, they usually use those verbs, and makes me practice my pronunciation.

2. Do you think they have been good or bad habits?

I think they have been good habits, in less than three months I could understand most of a conversation. Even though I couldn't speak very well, I keep trying my best with these methods. So I could perfect my pronunciation.

Although, my spelling and reading was great, I met some people on Internet and I could communicate with them. Also, I was able to read Children's stories and some articles.

3. Can you now use the language to communicate?

Yes, I can talk to someone in English, either writing or talking. I'm able to make jokes, what I think is the most difficult part of learning a language. Nowadays, I've travelled around Europe and America, so I'm able to make myself understood and understand people's directions.

I'm very happy on these habits that I made to learn language, that left me so excited. Now I'm looking for any French classes, so I could learn a new language.
