Hi.

HOSE 1 ==> Fill the sink in 8 hours ==> In 1 hour fill 1/8 of the sink

HOSE 2 ==> Fill the sink in 5 hours ==> In 1 hour fill 1/5 of the sink

So if both are used simultaneously, in 1 hour they fill

1/8 + 1/5 = 13/40 pool

Now, we propose a simple rule of three to find out the time it takes to fill the entire sink:

13/40 pool _____ 1 hour

1 pool ___________ x

x = (1 · 1) / (13/40) = 40/13 = 3.0769 h (approx.) = 3 hr 4 min 37 sec (approx.)

A greeting.
