➤ TEXT
• Geocaching
Jeffrey and Olivia are geocachers, and they explore the most beautiful places on Earth looking for hidden treasures called geocashes.
Geocaching is the biggest treasure hunt in the world. [There are millions of players in the world and millions of geocaches in more than 190 countries. ]¹ To play, you need a mobile phone or GPS to indicate you the location of a geocache and to navigate you there.
A geocache is a plastic container with a notebook and small gifts inside. When geocachers find one, they open it, write their name on the notebook they find inside, and then put the geocache back in the same place.
[Geocaches are of different sizes, but some are so small that they are very difficult to find. Some geocaches are smaller than a pack of cards!]² Geocaches usually contain small objects – for example, coins or toys. You can keep an object from a geocache, but you must replace it with something else. Some objects are more useful than others. [Olivia once found a pair of gloves on a cold night. Gloves are warmer than caps, so she left her cap and took the gloves!]³
Olivia and Jeffrey like to go geocaching to the wildest places on Earth. Right now they are at Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. [Last year, they were in the most amazing rainforest in the world, the Amazon Rainforest.]⁴ [And next year they want to go to Antarctica, one of the coldest places on Earth!]⁵
Geocaching is a lot of fun. Do you want to play? [Register online and find information about geocaches near you – there are geocaches in towns, too! Then, choose a geocache and use your mobile phone to help you get to the area. When you find a geocache, don't forget to write your name in the notebook and then log your experience online!]⁶
